Private Lessons

Note: Regular Private and Group Lessons continue during the summer with a break from July 6, 2010 to July 24, 2010.

Private piano lessons are designed to be a traditional approach to the study of piano:  developing a solid piano technique and a fluid ability to be able to play classical, jazz and modern piano literature.  It's not just a piano lesson.  It's a comprehensive, intensive and fun music program that integrates study of piano technique, phrasing, rhythm, music theory, harmony, singing,  music history, and sight reading into every piano lesson on various levels based on the various need of the students.

Adult piano course-It’s never too late. Early neural stimulation as a child DOES help with musical intelligence as an adult, but it need not be from the piano. For example, kids who are great at sports or gymnastics or dance are often the best at piano, when they eventually try it. That’s not a surprise to most people. But what is a surprise is that adults show the same parallel!

Student gets to choose how many lessons to take in a week (minimum 4 lessons per month) and the duration of the lesson (minimum 30 minutes).  LM Music Studio offers lessons in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.  Special Group classes will be offered throughout the year focusing on various themes.

  • 30 Minute lessons - $25.00 for each 30 minute lesson (minimum 4 lessons per month)
  • 45-60 Minute lessons available on request for intermediate to advanced students.

Make-up lessons will not be given for canceled or missed lessons except for those canceled by the teacher.  If a lesson is missed, tuition is forfeited.  No exceptions.

Frequently Asked Questions from Prospective Students

How often should we meet for a lesson?  Usually one half hour per week.

What do lessons cost?  Most students take one 30 minute lesson a week which cost $25.

How much do I have to practice?  This depends upon your goals and motivation; enough to progress at least a little and warrant another lesson.  Practice should involve concentration, learning, improvement and enjoyment.

How do you teach beginners?  I cover all the basics: technique, touch, posture, theory, and reading and understanding music.  I also discover how to motivate the student and lead rapidly to enjoyment of the piano.  The student needs to find his own musical sense.

At what age should one begin Piano Lessons?  Piano instruction can begin very early and is an excellent foundation for the study of other instruments in future.  Some students have begun their studies as early as the age of three.  Whether or not this is possible ,depends on the child’s capacity to pay attention at this very early age and all children are different (ages 5-12 are more typical).   No matter the age, whether young or old, the piano is a great instrument to begin or continue one’s music education.  Professor Larissa Mulligan with her unique method of teaching will help you choose the right piano program for yourself or your child.
